HERRING

Art and writing, emerging from a lifelong study of perception, presence, and human experience.
I come to creative work through a long study of perception, communication, and human experience. With a master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and additional grounding in education, multicultural studies, sociology, and human development, my approach is further informed by decades of independent study in holistic wellness—including yoga and creative dance—which has shaped the way I listen, observe, and attend to the inner life.

My relationship with art began early. In high school, I studied art formally and received an award, yet for many years my creative work lived quietly—paintings offered as gifts, occasional commissions, and personal explorations made without the label of “artist.” The practice, however, never stopped.

Since 2019, I've embraced painting as a central, creative practice, bringing with it years of embodied exploration through movement, observation, and contemplation. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, I use paint to explore how inner experience meets the external world—through color, form, and presence.

Beyond the studio, my curiosity extends to writing and video. I’m currently working on a book with the working title The Inner Life of a Curious Mind, planned for release on Amazon in 2026. My YouTube channel offers free videos that invite viewers into moments of adventure, observation, and scenic beauty.

My work is currently on display at The Tilted Map Bakery in Morganton, NC, where 20% of proceeds support the nonprofit Mountain Aid Project, helping communities throughout Appalachia. The café itself is warm and welcoming, with in-house baked goods, excellent coffee, and a staff devoted to bringing people together. If you’re interested in viewing paintings not currently on display, I’m happy to arrange a private showing—just click the contact button below.

The Inner Life of a Curious Mind

Step inside a mind that notices the subtle hums of life—sometimes quiet, sometimes startling, always alive. In these reflective, journal-style essays, I explore the everyday and the extraordinary: brief encounters that linger long after they end, the delicate art of living with awareness, and the small yet meaningful choices that shape a life well lived.
From pondering the whisper of a cat’s tail in a sunlit room to the fleeting thrill of a serendipitous conversation in a coffee shop, these pages are a record of curiosity, presence, and quiet self-discovery. Life is examined without judgment, felt deeply without pathologizing, and appreciated with care.

For anyone who finds beauty in the ordinary, joy in thoughtful reflection, and freedom in knowing that the inner life is as rich as the world outside, this collection invites readers to pause, notice, and consider their own moments with fresh eyes.
